The Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO) in Rivers State has kicked against the arrest of Farah Dagogo by the police.

Dagogo who is the lawmaker representing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives and the 2023 governorship aspirant was arrested on Thursday by the police a day after Governor Nyesom Wike declared Dagogo wanted.

The declaration for Dagogo’s arrest was a sequel to an allegation levelled against the lawmaker by the governor that he (Dagogo) sent cultists to disrupt the ongoing PDP screening process in the state.

Speaking with our correspondent, the state CLO Chairman, Clifford Solomon said, “ever since Dagogo made his interest known to contest the guber race, the political hatred on him by Wike grew.

“The right thing to do was for Wike to go through the court process with an authentic warrant of arrest by the court before declaring him wanted if the governor feels the lawmaker has case to answer.

“We, the state civil liberty organisation view the arrest of Dagogo as a political sentiment and a calculated political attempt to deter the lawmaker from contesting the governorship seat in the state.”

The state CLO also said that the ongoing political conflict between the governor and the lawmaker can snowball into political violence in the state if it is not properly addressed.

“We don’t want political bloodshed again in the state and we are using this medium to call on relevant authorities to wade into this matter and resolve it amicably,” Solomon said.
