Robbers raid five Edo banks, kill six

No less than six persons have been reportedly killed following a robbery attack on commercial banks in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident which took place on Thursday affected four financial institutions including Zenith Bank, UBA, Union Bank, and First Bank.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Bello Kontongs said the victims include two police officers and four civilians.

Kontongs said the affected banks suffered substantial damages, noting that details about the incident will be communicated later.

A resident of the community, who spoke to Punch, described the attacks as “too coordinated in commando-style and the armed robbers launched the attacks simultaneously. This is novel in this town.”

Videos of the attack seen on social media showed residents scampering for safety as the attackers shot sporadically.
