Petroleum scarcity looms in Rivers State as Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN suspend her operations in all the loading Depots in the state.

State Chairman IPMAN, Dr. Joseph Obele, who disclose the development to our correspondent, said the impending scarcity is based on the directives issued by IPMAN President, Engr Fari Sanusi, on 11 November, 2021, suspending the lifting and distribution of Petroleum Products by all IPMAN members in Rivers state.

According to him, the directive is sequel to the continuous harassment, intimidation and disruption of loading activities of marketers in Eleme Port Harcourt refinery Depot by unknown thugs.

Dr Obele explained further that the thugs harassed marketers with several weapons and were forcefully obtaining money from marketers as trip levy, which led to drivers abandoning their truck and fled for safety.

“IPMAN has withdrawn its services in the state as hoodlums invaded Eleme Port Harcourt refinery Depot truck park. I have called on our members to remain calm pending the out come of stakeholders meeting.

“The sensitivity and inflammability of petroleum products does not require any crisis of such.”

He, however, called on Governor Nyesom Wike, DSS and Nigeria police to intervene on the situation, just as he claimed that the hoodlums acted on the instruction of one George Epie.

“The Port Harcourt refinery Depot community has been under attack led by George epie. There is a substantive order of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt restraining this George and his cohorts from interfering with the activities of IPMAN in Port Harcourt Depot.

“I, therefore, call on the proactive Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom wike, security agencies to urgently intervene on this matter to avert the untold hardship Petroleum scarcity will cause to the people of the state.”
