Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the multilateral trading system, with Vice President Kashim Shettima stressing the importance of global cooperation in driving economic development.
Shettima made the remarks during a meeting with WTO Director-General, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India.
The Vice President pledged Nigeria’s continued support for stronger multilateralism and a global economic system built on cooperation rather than isolation.

Shettima also highlighted migration as an important driver of development, innovation and economic growth, while commending Okonjo-Iweala for her leadership at the WTO.
As part of his engagements at the summit, the Vice President is expected to present Nigeria’s economic potential, partnership opportunities and foreign investment prospects to BRICS leaders.
The discussions are expected to further highlight opportunities for stronger international partnerships and increased trade and investment flows between Nigeria and other economies.
