Team Rivers contingent to this year’s National Youth Games has been charged to participate fairly, dominate and show the true representation of Rivers athletes by winning gold medals to surpass previous outings at the games.

Addressing the contingent in a farewell ceremony at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, the Honorable Commissioner for Sports, Boma Iyaye expressed satisfaction in seeing kids in their numbers starting early in their sporting careers and even come to camp to prepare for the games.

He also commended and appreciated the efforts of their parents in allowing their children to come to camp to represent the state while pointing out the need to be good ambassadors of the state.

“You are no longer representing your schools, so it is your responsibility to be good ambassadors and represent the state in good light.

“All that is needed for you to succeed has been provided and if there is anything else to make you excel, the governor has assured to provide it.”

The Commissioner announced the improved package of camp allowances to the athletes and officials to the cheers of the contingent. He also spoke about the provision of escorts, luxury buses, welfare, kits, training materials, travel subsidy and more goodies that await the team.

“Go and do your own part and come out tops. We have provided all that you need and will still do more. I assure you the governor knows how to make happy those that do the state proud,” added Iyaye.

Team Rivers will be participating in 27 of the 33 events at the games with a contingent of 252 athletes, coaches, and secretaries that departed the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt to Ilorin, Kwara State venue of the games.
