Rivers CP invites RSCHSMT students over continuous protest

The Rivers State police commissioner, CP Friday Ebuka has invited protesting students of the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology (RSCHSMT), Port Harcourt for a meeting at the State Police headquarters.

The meeting was scheduled following the continuous protest by the students of the institution.

It would be recalled, that the aggrieved students, last week, had barricaded the popular Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt to protest poor infrastructures and lack of basic amenities in the school.

Our reporter gathered that the students, after being directed to leave the college premises on or before 4 pm last Saturday by the school management, stormed the school gate on Monday to continue the protest.

The students were then approached by senior Police Officers from the state Police headquarters for a meeting with the State Commissioner of Police.

Some of the students, who bared their minds on issues that necessitated the protest said:

“We wanted to match down to the government house so we can tell the governor what we have been facing here in this school and for him to attend to our needs but when we got to the gate they refused us from coming outside the gate. They try to block us from coming outside and those outside not coming inside”

Another student who spoke to our reporter requested that the issue of accreditation be sorted out, especially the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programs.

“Very very simple, the issue of accreditation should be sorted out especially national diploma and higher national diploma programs the issues of accreditation should be sorted out, the school fees should be reduced back to what it was or something that is feasible”

“The Student Union Government have what they have already planned, but if the demands are not met at the end of the day, they would come back and tell us that, look at the side effect of the story. Then we will know what to do next”

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Wokocha Noble explained that the student community will honour the invitation by the commissioner of police but will not fail to resume protest if their demands are not addressed.
