The Chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities NASU University of Port Harcourt Chapter, Ogbegbe Osoruchi in a chat with our correspondent said the union has directed its members to join the national strike.

Ogbegbe Osoruchi said the strike is to press home their demands bothering on the inconsistencies in the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System IPPIS and the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the federal government.

According to Ogbegbe Osoruchi, he said the total strike will cripple administrative and academic activities in the institution.

He also said the inconsistencies in IPPIS is delaying their salaries and allowances and therefore called for a new or alternative payment platform for the payment of salaries.

Osoruchi noted that SSANU and NASU want to the Federal Government to return them to their initial payment platform or they will provide a new platform like ASUU did during their negotiation with the Federal Government last year.

Failure to pay Minimum Wage

Ogbegbe Osoruchi also accused the FG of not paying the minimum wages since it was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He insisted that the Federal Government must pay the arrears of the minimum wages before they call-off the strike.

“Then our minimum wage. Since Mr President signed it into law till now we have not seen anything. We are agitating that they should pay us our arrears of the minimum wage. They claimed that they have implemented it but to no avail, nothing has come in regards of that minimum wage” he said.

Ogbegbe Osoruchi also called on the federal government to heed to their demands so that it would not disrupt academic activities.

He also appealed to the students to bear with the members of the union as their demands and agitations are in the best interest of education in Nigeria.
