Rivers arrests ‘Keke’ operators for violating executive order

Rivers State government says it will begin the prosecution of keke riders arrested for operating on the nineteen major roads in Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor local government areas.

The commissioner for transport, Osimaya Geena who led the enforcement team further appealed to the public to ensure that the objective of the ban is achieved

Osimaya warned commuters to stop using keke for their transportation needs in the affected areas or face prosecution.

“I led the team, we went out to trans amadi, we went out to Odili road. At Odili road axis we arrested one keke, impounded it at trans amadi, we arrested two keke riders and impounded their keke”

“The arrested Keke riders are in the custody and they will be charged to court on Monday. And so we are using the opportunity to further appeal to members of the public to please help government to ensure that the ban on keke becomes a reality”

The commissioner for transport, Osimaya further said that the governor will not relent in ensuring that affected roads are safe for all residents.

“And so we are using the opportunity to further appeal to members of the public to please help government to ensure that the ban on keke become a reality, don’t use keke along these major roads that are mentioned in the executive order.

“And then keke riders, you have given your words several times that you will prevail on your members to obey the executive order, please obey the executive order, prevail on your members, leaderships to obey the executive order so that we will not impound tour keke and arrest your people”
