Rivers Council Boss’s associate issues death threat to youth leader who cautioned against extortion of poor farmers

An associate of Obinna Anyanwụ, the Local Government Chairman of Etche in Rivers State, has issued death threats to a youth in the LGA over the extortion of poor local farmers.

Charles Eke, a former Special Assistant to the Chairman and currently the Ward Coordinator of Etche Liberation Movement, a political outfit of Mr Anyanwu in Akopku/Umuoye Ward 16 threatened to deal with one Chima Tos Anaele, the Financial Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the LGA.

Anaele had confronted Mr Eke over the incessant extortion and seizure of produces of the poor farmers in the wards despite the biting economic realities occasioned by the CORONAVIRUS pandemic, a development that did not go down well with Mr Eke.

According to a ten minutes recorded call between the duo which was made available to theportcitynews.com, Mr Anaele could be heard arguing that since the council does not empower the poor farmers in anyway, it was improper to extort them of their little sources of livelihood.

However, Mr Eke argued that the Chairman (Obinna Anyanwu) was aware of his extortionate activities, adding that Anaele was challenging his activities because of his future political ambition. He went further and issued death treats to Anaele if he dares visit the market to stop the collection of levies from the poor farmers.
