Biafra – when men had balls

Yomi Lawal

The story tells itself. Those who won by flouting the rules of war, murdering millions of non-combatants and carrying out food blockade are the cowards and criminals.

Many of the primary actors are dead and the remaining few almost dead. The victims — over 3 million dead- numbering more than 40 million are still alive and actively being cheated by the same state that murdered their people.

Shall it be a crime to demand a divorce? Is it fair to steal property from the weak?

Nigeria after using illegal war tactics that constitute war crimes and flout the Geneva convention then went ahead to steal the houses and contents therein of Igbos around the country. Their monies in the banks were also stolen and each man given a mere 20pounds as payoff for their bank deposits -irrespective of the tens of thousands in there.

Who took these houses, who took these monies?

After doing this, they sought to erase this atrocity from Nigeria’s history, yet they continue to cheat the same people they stole from!

There is a bight of Biafra on the world map, Biafra is a people. Why hold on to a people who want to go when all you do is openly marginalize them and then still tax their sweat?

Is it a crime to have the skill to blend into whatever population you get into and trade successfully with them?

I get it, some people don’t like Igbos because of stereotypes. In reality, how many Igbos have you interacted with? You complain about your Igbo market seller, but you will go back to the same Igbo trader because you know deep within you he is the best person for you to trade with!

Less than 300 Nigerians are dead from COVID-19 but the whole nation stood still. 3,000,000 Biafrans were murdered and we want to pretend it didn’t happen?

No, there cannot be justice without acknowledging history. Those who died for Biafra must not die in vain. We should not forget. I will not piss on the memory of men who decided to stand up to injustice and paid with their lives. I pray I will be alive to witness the emancipation of the people of Biafra. Amen!

At the minimum, Nigeria must pay reparation to the Igbos. Let there be equal rights and let there be justice. Let “my” people go if they so want!

May the souls of the departed Biafrans speak to the freedom of their people. Biafra exists!

Igbo Kwenu! (Chukwuemeka, I see you)
