Reasons have emerged why Governor Nyesom Wike permanently shut the popular Slaughter Market in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt.

Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, the commissioner for information had on Sunday in a terse statement announced the decision of the state government to permanently close down the market.

Recall that Wike had weeks ago shut down markets in the state in order to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The state, Theportcitynews reported, has recorded 14 cases so far with government labouring to stop the spread.

Sources within the area said the government’s decision might not be unconnected with the breaking of its lockdown order by the Hausa traders in the area.

One of the sources, Nyemuche told Theportcitynews that despite the state government’s order, the traders there have continued to trade and have refused to observe the social distancing order set out to curb the coronavirus pandemic.

“I think the last straw that broke the camel’s back was the fact that they also observe crowded praying in the area.

“The hoodlums there have also turned the place into a terror ground where people are robbed daily of their belongings. Its been a long time coming”
