Rivers State Government withdraws original charges against Gracious David West

The Attorney-General of the state, Honourable Zacchaeus Adangor, has filed an application before a Rivers State High court requesting the withdrawal of the original charges filed by the Police against the accused serial killer, Gracious David West.

The Attorney-General said on Monday that the state will substitute same with fresh charges with proofs of evidence as required by law.

Honourable Adangor told the court that the fresh charges came up after the prosecutor studied the original charge sheet given to them by the police which he said indicates that one Nimi ThankGod ought to have been charged together with Gracious David West.

He, however, refused to state when Mr Thankgod was arrested.

The Attorney-General prayed the court to give the defendants time to go through the processes that were served them On Monday.

He added that it will also give the prosecutor time to arraign the second accused person in court.

Vincent Chukwu, Counsel to one of the defendants, Gracious David West, also made an application to the court for more time to go through the processes served.

The presiding Judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, after listening to the Counsels, adjourned to 21st November for the suspects to take their pleas.

David West, who was brought to court for the hearing from Port Harcourt Prison looked lost.

West appeared in court in handcuffs, wearing a green prison uniform and a plastic bracelet.

He initially pleaded guilty to nine out of the ten charges pressed against him by the police in October.

He also lost a lot of weight compared to when he was in the custody of the Special Robbery Squad, SARS.

West who sustained his threats on journalists who tried to take pictures of him had a tense look and continuously raised his hand to say something to the judge.

His facial expressions usually changed to that of an angry bull when not allowed to say speak.

Outside the courtroom, he threatened to break phones and cameras of journalists who tried to take pictures of him.

The suspected serial killer was also not spotted with the inhaler he initially carried around.

Also, the Bible he usually carried about was no longer in his hands.

The prison officials, when asked by newsmen, refused to comment on reports that West was being manhandled in prison by other inmates.
