The authority of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State will soon create two skill acquisition centres in the area as part of efforts to curb insecurity in the oil-rich LGA.

The chairman of the council, Hon Paul Kobani who made this known through his Special Adviser on Youth Affairs, Comrade Barida Promise said only people-oriented skills that are of high economic demands would be in the two vocational centres.

Hon Kobani also unveiled plans by his administration to procure more security vehicles for the security agencies in the area, noting that his goal is to make the LGA most secured among other LGAs of the state.

The council chairman who accused few unmentioned names of taking pleasure in fueling crisis in Gokana because they are breeding from it, warned that his government would make the area uncomfortable for conflict entrepreneurs to thrive.

He said: “Idleness cannot be an excuse for crime. Because if you look around us, it is not everyone that is engaged. In my area being Gokana LGA, this council has designed a programme that is going to come on stream very soon.

“We want to build two skill acquisition centres that will cater for the youths who are willing because most of these youths are not even willing. We want to use these projects to get the youths engaged meaningfully.

“The skills that the projects will embark on are those ones that are attractive and marketable and are of high demands. And I am very sure that these projects will be well embraced by everyone when we start them because they are people-oriented projects.

“In terms of security pursuit, my council is the best among other local government councils of the state. My administration has been up and doing. We do not sleep. There is upcoming plan by my council to buy some security vehicles for security agents irrespective of the ones bought by Governor Nyesom Wike.

“The crisis in Gokana is as a result of the terrain. We are among the oil producing area in Niger Delta and has a border with coastal regions. Some of the crises in Gokana are set up by those who breed from them. But my administration has been on top of the gain, doing all we can to ensure that there is peace in the area.

“As I speak to you right now, there is detachment of soldiers and other paramilitary agencies in Gokana who are trying to see how they can ensure total peace in the area. So my administration has been doing well and what we deserve is commendation.”
