People’s Supreme Congress holds convention in Rivers State

An advocacy group, the People’s Supreme Congress (PSC) has held its national convention in Port Harcourt to brainstorm on issues bordering on the state of the nation.

Speakers at the convention spoke on: The state of the nation, insecurity, and disarming the bandits terrorising Nigerians. The role of Government, Security agencies, the citizens and the concept of self defense.”

Others are: “War against corruption. Success, challenges and way forward. A critical look at the anti corruption war from 1999 till date. Evaluation of the success and challenges.”

To set the ball of discourse rolling, the Leader of the group, Hon. Anthony Kalzeeni Ikem stressed the need for Nigerians to put their differences aside for the collective good of the nation

The PSC leader also said: “This convention is unique, the most important thing is that we are trying to enlighten our people on how to hold our leaders accountable.”

Speaking on the challenges confronting the nation as a union of multi lingual ethnicities, a Lecturer of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Dr Zelinjo Igweze urged all and sundry to be law abiding and prioritize what is just and fair for all.

She also described PSC as a group of great patriots adding that, “PSC is an association of like minded people who have an idea of how the country should be better governed. We should start thinking about the future and not money because money is not everything.”

On his part, Discussant, Obayomi Asunni who decried the lavel of corruption in the country as worrisome, advised politicians to always put the interest of the country first not self.

Hon Asunni said: “We discussed about the need for all Nigerians to be united. I also advised my fellow citizens not to rely on government but to rather focus on how to do things that will develop our country. We should also see ourselves as brothers and sisters despite our divers tribes and cultures.

Speaking with our correspondent on the sideline, the PSC Special Assistant and seasoned broadcaster, Hon Asher Benson urged Nigerian leaders to govern the country with integrity and desist from reneging on their promises.

According to her: “If you noticed from the first topic, we talked about the state of the nation. We believe in equitable and just society. We expect our leaders to be able to deliver what they have promised the people. Our role is to at least come together once in a while to point out critical national issues and also proffer solutions.”
