Police officer critically injured after mob attack in Port Harcourt

The zone seven mobile court in charge of the Rumuola, Garrison and Boricamp axis of Portharcourt/Aba expressway, has remanded one Raphael Ede in prison custody.

Raphael Ede is suspected to be part of the mob numbering over 50 that attacked police and task force agents, damaged government vehicle that conveyed the officers assigned to arrest and prosecute offenders of the Rivers State Street Trading, Illegal market and motor parks Prohibition Law 2019.

The mob attacked the task force agent at the Boricamp bus stop with weapons including stones and left one sergeant Clifford Iheanacho, a police officer attached to the task force significantly wounded.

The officer is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed health facility.

The suspect Raphael Ede is facing a three-count charge of assault, committing harm to a police officer, conspiracy to commit a felony, which are punishable offences that attract seven years imprisonment under the section 315, 316, 385 criminal code laws of Rivers State.

The trial Magistrate in her judgement remanded the suspect in prison custody until the Nigerian police conclude a thorough investigation.

Our reporter Tina Amanda gathered that the Garrison mobile court has tried over 50 cases, convicted some offenders with excellence, while other offenders were punished by giving them community Services to sweep the area.
