Gunmen attack commercial bus at Emohua axis of East-West Road

Gunmen on Wednesday evening attacked a commercial bus along the Emohua Axis of the East-West Road and abducted travellers.

Theportcitynews gathered that the bus which was on its way from Delta State to Port Harcourt was attacked at the Rumuekpe axis of the road around 5: 30 pm.

A passenger who escaped the onslaught by the hoodlums said some passengers were injured while trying to flee from the gunmen, adding that the gunmen succeeded in abducting about five of the passengers.

According to him, the bus was moving without hitches until one of the gunmen appeared from a nearby bush and opened fire on the vehicle.

He said the gunshots forced the driver to quickly stop the vehicle, adding that some agile passengers fled upon sighting other gunmen who appeared from the bush.

The Emohua axis of the road has become a nightmare for unsuspecting road user as gunmen kill and kidnap passengers at will.

In February, the police in Rivers State declared a state of emergency on the road, promising to comb the surrounding bushes in order to flush out criminal gangs operating in the area.

However, a week after, the police abandoned a state of emergency it so declared but resurfaced in April to declare a state of emergency on the road again which did not achieve any success.

The Rivers State Police Command could not be reached comments on the matter
