Man remanded in prison for rape, robbery

One Mr. Sylvester Faith has been remanded in prison custody by a magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt for forcefully raping a lady of 29years old, name withheld, and for carting away her valuables and money.

The suspect was said to have committed the unholy act on March 29th, at Ibeto road, Port Harcourt, after threaten to stab the victim to death with a knife if she resists him.

Sylvester Faith is currently facing two count charge under section 358 and 390 of the criminal laws of Rivers state.

In her ruling, Senior Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart remanded the suspect in prison custody, while referring the matter to the state department of public prosecution for further advice. She also adjourned the case to 11th of June.

Speaking to our reporter Tina Amanda, counsel to the applicant, Chairperson FIDA Rivers State, Antonia Osademe, said the culprit was caught through the joint effort of the Rivers Police Command, stressing that the suspect must be brought to face the law.

She also noted that the victim’s 3 phones worth forty-eight thousand (48,000) naira and Thirty-seven thousand (37,000)naira cash stolen by the culprit were recovered and handed over to the victim.
