2019: We’ll resist imposition of candidates – Rivers APC

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, members of the All Progressives Congress in Etche Local Government Area have warned that they will resist any form of imposition of candidates on members of the party.

Speaking during an event, Mr. Nweke Okechukwu, who is the assistant youth leader of Ulakwo ward 13 (PA-4-Abe) a pro-APC group, pointed out that members of the party would not accept a situation where people were handpicked to fly the flag of the party.

He also expressed the need for primaries to be conducted for all elective positions before the 2019 general election.

The members also endorsed Chief. Allwell Onyesoh for Rivers East senatorial position and Magnus Abe for the governorship position in Rivers State next year.

Mr. Nweke maintained that the era of godfatherism in Rivers APC was gone, even as he assured members of the party that there would be no more imposition of candidates.

He said, “As far as the 2019 election is concerned, we want to eradicate godfatherism in APC. No more imposition of candidates on us. We will not tolerate it; we are assuring the youths of APC that there must be internal democracy in our party.

“We have a Samson that can face a lion; we have a David that can face Goliath in the coming election. That Samson; that David is Senator Magnus Abe and our illusterous Son chief Allwell Onyesoh .”

The endorsement for both candidates for senate and governorship became very necessary for next year because the two blocks which make up the Rivers East senatorial district has freely zoned out the Senatorial district position to Etche Ethnic nationality just to retain zoning system and for the purposes of equity and fairness.

Stakeholders in Ikwerre extraction like former Attorney General of the state, Hon. Wugo, has assured Etche people of Ikwerre support since it was the turn of Etche people to produce the next Senator of the Rivers East senatorial District , adding that Chief Allwell as an Etche man remains the best candidate from the job.
