Huge python looks like a speed bump as it slithers across a road.

  • It was caught on camera by Cameron Watt, 50, who was in the car with his kids
  • The university employee said he had never seen a snake so big in his entire life

In most countries speed bumps are put in place to save lives. But in Africa, they might just kill you if you cross them.

One motorist driving through the bush found this out first hand when he stumbled upon what he thought was a sleeping policeman in the middle of a dirt track.

On closer inspection, however, the hapless driver spotted that it was an absolutely monstrous giant python.

The snake was spotted making its way across the road in rural Limpopo, South Africa.

And Cameron Watt, 50, couldn’t resist getting a closer look at what he called ‘the biggest snake he’d ever seen’.

Cameron, who was with his kids at the time, captured an incredible video of the snake slithering away into the bushes after it had finished blocking the road.

His video shows the dark silhouette of the python stretching the entire width of the road at first before it starts to move.

As the camera moves closer in, it reveals the enormous length and width of the snake’s body.

Slowly but surely the reptile shuffles its hulking frame closer towards the bushes with the awestruck driver standing right over it.

Cameron, who works at the University of the Witwatersrand, said: ‘I was walking in the bush and came across the snake.

‘I then called the kids so that they could have a look at the specimen as we have a lot of pythons on the property, but in my five years here I have never seen such a magnificent specimen.

‘The kids had watched the snake move through the bush and just took a video of it crossing the road to show friends.

‘I was really impressed to find a specimen that size as they are a protected species as people often catch them and sell them for pets hence the dwindling numbers.

‘To see a specimen like that for yourself in the bush is something quiet special.

‘Most people are amazed at the size of it and the fact that we still get some in the wild that size is really special.’
