FEAR GRIPS RIVERS CIVIL SERVANTS OVER BIOMETRIC

There were indications on Monday that there may yet be another biometric exercise for civil servants in Rivers State.

This is due to the fact that the ongoing verification exercise which is meant to end on the 15th of February, 2018 prepares the ground for the main biometric exercise which is believed to hold by March, 2018.

It would be recalled that in 2016, same biometric exercise was carried out by the government which left many civil servants and pensioners unpaid for a period of about six months.

Our investigation gathered that some civil servants are yet to receive their February 2016 salaries due to the fact that their names were omitted during the last biometric exercise.

In the light of this, many civil servants have expressed fear over the rumoured biometric exercise.

Majority of them who spoke to our correspondent on the conditions of anonymity said that there is no need for such meticulous exercise to be held once every two years.

They pleaded with the state governor, His Excellency Barrister N. E. Wike, to reconsider his action as many of them have not recovered from the strains of the last exercise.
