NPFL Shortlists 10 Referees for VAR Training in Morocco

According to the recent report from Blueprint, it is claimed that the Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has announced that the board, in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation, has chosen 10 local referees with computer skills for VAR training in Morocco.

The report has it that he outlined the objectives set for the league’s future.

“The next step is to move forward with the implementation of VAR in our league.”

“The Federation has selected 10 of our referees who are skilled in computer usage to participate in training in Morocco.”

“As a league organisation, we held an online meeting with the VAR manufacturers and the equipment suppliers.”

“To effectively use VAR, one must be proficient with communication devices. It is not essential to constantly look at the screen; you can communicate with those operating the system, who will aid in your decision-making.”

He also emphasised the necessity of obtaining sponsors for the purchase of Video Assistant Referee equipment to enhance officiating standards in Nigerian football.
