UPTH Disputes Viral Video Claiming Apartment Disruption, Urges Public to Dismiss It

The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) management has dispels report circulated online alleging that the institution forcefully removed the roof and damaged the apartment of one Mrs. Fortune Tenedam.4The management on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations, Elabha Meni, has responded to a viral video accusing the institution, urging the public to disregard the claim of Mrs Tenedam.

According to the statement, Meni, the spokesperson said the hospital clarified that its management had reviewed the content of the video and found the claims to be untrue and misleading. Revealing further, UPTH said Mrs. Tenedam is neither a staff member of the hospital nor was she officially assigned accommodation within the hospital’s premises.

The video shared on 21 June by Review TV New noted, “after 35 years of dedicated service, UPTH retiree abandoned: 5 years without benefits, apartment looted, vandalized, and flooded — Her only crime? Being a loyal Nigerian.” The statement noted that the building shown in the video had been previously occupied without authorization, and Mrs. Tenedam was asked multiple times in writing to vacate the premises.

The hospital added that the situation was brought to the attention of security agencies after suspicions arose that unauthorized individuals residing in the apartment may have been involved in criminal activities.

UPTH further stated that credible information from ongoing investigations suggests that the apartment was damaged and deroofed by Mrs. Tenedam herself before leaving. Describing the video as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public, the hospital urged citizens to disregard the clip. It reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of its legitimate staff and residents.
