Some Ogoni indigenes have commended the cleanup process of the Area by the hydrocarbon pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP and have called for support to speed up the process.
At a stakeholders forum, the people of Ogoni, including the Member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dumnamene Dekor, who said he came up with a Bill to sustain the cleanup of Ogoni, King of Eleme, Emere Philip Obele and Madam Pricilla, pledged their continued support for the Project.

Project Coordinator, HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, assured that the project engages the people in peace building programs as the cleanup is carried out according to the recommendations of the UNEP Report on Ogoni land.
He said “these efforts align with our project vision of ensuring that the people of Ogoni land enjoy a cleaner and healthier environment. We are also working with local leaders to build mechanisms for companies to venture”.
The four major Local Government Areas of Ogoni, Eleme, Tai, Gokana and Khana were represented at the meeting.
