The AFAM II 180 MegaWatt Power Plant inaugurated recently by President Bola Tinubu has been described as a significant project that will boost electricity supply in the country if well managed.

A former Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers state, Hon. Chamberlain Nwogu, who made the assertion in an interview with Radio Nigeria, said in a country plagued by power outages and failing infrastructure, commissioning of the project was a step in the right direction.

Hon. Nwogu commended President Bola Tinubu for giving hope to Nigerians through the completion of the all-important project while stressing that the important aspect of the project is distribution challenges, which he said, needs proper attention and action by government.

“Generation without stable transmission and billing reforms will still limit impact. “Questions remain on long-term maintenance and transparency. Nwogu advocated.

On lasting solutions to the problem of distribution of electricity to Nigerians, Mr. Nwogu called for the decentralization of the national grid system, to allow for regional mini-grids and urged the government to ensure public-private partnerships for long-term maintenance.
