The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted drugs worth over ₦6.5 billion at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers State, and the Apapa Seaport, Lagos.
The seizures include six million pills of opioids such as Tamol 225mg, Tapentadol 225mg, and Carisoprodol 225mg, as well as 332,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.
According to the NDLEA, the arrests and seizures followed weeks of intelligence gathering and tracking of new drug trafficking routes.
At the Port Harcourt Ports, six million pills of opioids and 162,000 bottles of codeine syrup were found in two containers on 19 May and 20, 2025, during a joint examination by NDLEA officers, Customs, and other security agencies.
At the Apapa port in Lagos, another 170,000 bottles of codeine syrup were discovered in a container on 22 May.
In a separate operation, four suspects, including two British nationals, were arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, for attempting to smuggle 92 bags of Loud (a strong strain of cannabis) weighing 51.10kg into Nigeria.
The suspects were identified as Mhizha Jordan Alexander Tatendra, Ayedipe Andrew Adejuwon, Shonowo Oluwaseun Imole, and Ofuoma Omokaro Ayobami.
The suspects were caught after Alexander arrived from Doha on a Qatar Airways flight and was monitored by NDLEA operatives to the car park, where he met the others.
NDLEA officers arrested them as they tried to drive away with the drugs. A follow-up search at their apartment in Lekki led to the discovery of more items, including cash, electronics, and four laughing gas canisters.

Elsewhere in the country, NDLEA operatives carried out more raids, in Cross River State, 30 hectares of cannabis farms were destroyed, and 200kg of skunk was recovered.
While in Edo State, 1,957.5kg of skunk was destroyed in forests in Ovia South West and Owan West LGAs. Then in Nasarawa State, 4,000kg of skunk was found in a lorry, and 154.5kg was recovered from another suspect.
Meanwhile, in Kaduna, a suspect was arrested with 57,750 pills of tramadol and diazepam. In Bauchi, another suspect was caught with 80 blocks of skunk weighing 45kg.
Furthermore, in Yobe, 55 parcels of Colorado weighing 2kg were intercepted on the way to Chad. Also, at Niger State, NDLEA stopped a car loaded with 97kg of cannabis.
In Lagos, two suspects were arrested in separate raids at Lekki and Ibeju-Lekki, with various drugs including cocaine, meth, molly, codeine, cannabis, and nitrous oxide.
Meanwhile, NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy across schools and communities in several states. These include schools in Katsina, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Adamawa, and Kano, as well as a royal visit to the Sarkin Fulani of Lagos, Alhaji Muhammadu Bambado.
