Tinubu Proposes N1.48 Trillion Budget for Rivers Development

tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has made a crucial move towards the advancement of Rivers State by presenting a notable N1.48 trillion budget proposal to the National Assembly for consideration.

This budget plan is thorough, with significant allocations aimed at fostering growth and enhancing the living standards of the state’s citizens.

The budget’s breakdown features a substantial N324 billion designated for infrastructure projects during the fiscal year. This funding is anticipated to improve the state’s transportation systems, public amenities, and overall infrastructure, which are vital for economic development.

An allocation of N166 billion has been directed towards the health sector, with a marked N5 billion explicitly set aside for distributing free medications to all demographics within the state. This initiative seeks to enhance healthcare access and outcomes, especially for vulnerable people.

N75.6 billion is earmarked for educational development. This allocation aims to finance various initiatives focused on improving the quality of education in Rivers State, encompassing infrastructure upgrades, teacher training, and other educational programs.

N31.4 billion has been allocated to support agricultural projects. This funding is essential for increasing food production, creating jobs, and enhancing the state’s economic output.

The President’s accompanying letter with the budget proposal stresses the necessity of approving the budget to facilitate meaningful progress in essential sectors and to enhance the overall quality of life for the people of Rivers State.

By underscoring the need for prompt approval, President Tinubu reaffirms his administration’s dedication to effectively implementing the state’s development agenda.

After the budget proposal was submitted, Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the bill to the committee on emergency rule in Rivers State. This committee has been assigned to evaluate the proposal and provide feedback at the earliest opportunity.

This action is vital to guarantee that the budget is subjected to rigorous examination and that any required modifications are made prior to approval.

It is notable that President Tinubu has been in active discussions with the National Assembly regarding budget issues. Recently, he raised the 2025 budget proposal from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.

This increase, attributed to extra revenues generated by agencies such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigeria Customs Service, aims to enhance crucial sectors, including solid minerals development, agriculture, and infrastructure projects.

This action illustrates the President’s determination to utilize available resources for national development and economic progress.

Approval of the N1.48 trillion budget proposal for Rivers State would represent a significant achievement in the state’s development journey. It is anticipated to yield tangible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture, ultimately raising the quality of life for the inhabitants of the state.
