The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State branch, has called for strategic partnerships to sustain its support for vulnerable individuals across the state.
Chairperson of FIDA Rivers, Tamunoibuemi Life-JimGeorge, made the call during a sensitization campaign themed “Know Your Rights” for traders at Creek Road Market, Port Harcourt, held as part of activities marking the organization’s 38th anniversary.
Speaking at the event, Life-JimGeorge reaffirmed FIDA’s commitment to eradicating harmful traditional practices and promoting legal awareness at the grassroots level.
“We advise women and men to know their rights, speak out against all forms of violence, and understand the importance of child education,” she stated.

She called on the public, especially well-meaning Nigerians, to join FIDA’s partnership club by donating or providing grants to support the vulnerable, noting that such contributions would help create a better society.

Reflecting on the organization’s achievements, the chairperson noted: “In the last 38 years, we have promoted, protected, and preserved the rights of the vulnerable in Rivers State. Through various sensitization campaigns and mediation efforts, we’ve helped reduce ignorance and restore peace in homes.”

She highlighted FIDA’s inclusive approach, emphasizing that the organization advocates not only for women but also for boys and men.
“We have changed the narrative by inaugurating FIDA Boys’ Clubs in some secondary schools. Boys deserve protection and rights too, so they grow into responsible men. Today, men feel comfortable approaching FIDA because they know we are here for everyone—male, female, and children.”
Recalling a participant’s feedback during one of the campaigns, she shared, “A man once said, ‘By the time FIDA brain-set my wife, I started enjoying peace at home.’ That’s the impact we strive for.”
As part of its anniversary activities, FIDA Rivers also held a media parley to strengthen collaboration with media partners and discuss better ways to amplify the voices of the voiceless in rural communities.
The week-long celebration features radio talk shows, rights awareness rallies, the inauguration of FIDA Boys’ Clubs, a family week celebration, and media engagements.
