Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has publicly addressed and refuted widespread rumors circulating on social media regarding his health. The minister categorically denied claims that he had collapsed at a recent event, asserting that such reports were politically motivated.
The controversy stemmed from social media posts, particularly on X, alleging that Wike experienced a health incident and was subsequently hospitalized. In response, Wike, while conducting inspections of ongoing FCT projects, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), clarified his current health status.
“I don’t want to give credence to people who are only interested in carrying rumor,” Wike stated. “First of all, I’m a human being; it’s not a ghost that will collapse. A human being will collapse if there is any issue with their health. Unfortunately, I did not collapse.”

Wike’s public appearance at a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu, days after the rumors surfaced, further served to counter the claims. Observers noted that the minister appeared to be in good health during the event.
The FCT minister attributed the spread of these rumors to political adversaries attempting to gain an advantage. He also suggested that the timing of these rumors could be linked to recent revelations concerning the Rivers State House of Assembly. Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, had also previously issued statements dismissing the reports as false.
