Rivers United Beats El-Kanemi Warriors

Rivers United secured a hard-fought victory on the road, defeating El Kanemi Warriors on their home turf. The visitors’ persistence paid off, as they scored two crucial goals to take a commanding lead.

The breakthrough came in the 47th minute, when Taofeek Otaniyi found the back of the net to give Rivers United a 1-0 advantage. The visitors continued to press, and their efforts were rewarded in the 61st minute when Samson Obi scored the team’s second goal, doubling their lead.

Despite a late surge by El Kanemi Warriors, Rivers United’s defense held firm until the 90th minute, when Muktar Ismail scored a consolation goal for the hosts. However, it was too little, too late, as Rivers United had already done enough to secure the win and take all three points back home.

Finidi George addressed the media after his team’s victory over El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri. Despite the challenging weather conditions, George expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, acknowledging that the heat posed a significant problem for his players.

However, George also highlighted areas where his team could improve, particularly in their attacking play. He noted that Rivers United created sufficient scoring opportunities but lacked effective communication in front of goal, which prevented them from converting more chances into goals.

George also lamented the careless defending that allowed El-Kanemi Warriors to score a late consolation goal. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and discipline throughout the match to avoid conceding unnecessary goals.

On a positive note, George praised his team’s ability to capitalize on the fatigue of their opponents, which ultimately proved decisive in securing the win. Looking ahead, George expressed his optimism about the team’s next match, hinting that they would build on the momentum gained from this victory.

Overall, George’s post-match assessment reflected a mix of satisfaction and constructive criticism, as he continues to push his team to improve and achieve their goals.
