By Tina Amanda

There was chaos on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Ogoloma Street off Chinda in Mile 4, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, as suspected cultists reportedly stabbed a young man, identified as Aleruchi Samuel, also known as “Bigi,” to death.

Sources indicate that the suspected cultists, allegedly loyal to a Deywell cult leader in the area, attempted to forcefully take Bigi to their ‘barrack’ following a complaint from a woman also laying claim to a disputed piece of land where he was erecting a fence.

According to report, Bigi resisted their attempt, prompting one of the cultists to stab him in the neck. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the incident, enraged community youths took to the streets in protest, leading to a tense situation that was eventually brought under control by the police.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated:

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. It is related to a land dispute where a fence was being erected. A woman reportedly called in unknown individuals, who then stabbed the man in the neck.”

She further disclosed that two suspects has been arrested in connection with the killing. Noting that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt, for a thorough investigation.
