Anthrax Vaccination Campaign Flag-Off in Rivers State

Flagged-off

Preventing the outbreak of anthrax in the state has led the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture to flag off the Anthrax Vaccination Campaign at the Livestock Demonstration Farms located in the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

This flag-off exercise came shortly after Zamfara State witnessed an outbreak of the zoonotic disease.

The 7-day free vaccination commenced on 10 February and is scheduled to end on 17 February with the aim to protect livestock and ensure food security and public health.

Anthrax can be spread from infected animals to humans after contact with infected objects.

However, TCPN gathered that the ceremony was greased by farmers, stakeholders, and veterinary experts to administer the first round of vaccine to the available livestock.

This initiative highlighted the importance of proactive animal healthcare.

The Ministry of Agriculture encourages all livestock farmers to participate in safeguarding their animals and environment.

The ministry appreciated the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for his continuous dedication and efforts in providing security measures for food across the state.

The ministry said, “Together, we can build a healthier and safer agricultural sector!.
