Dokubo-Asari Urges Kalabari Diaspora to Return Home and Invest in Community Development

Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, the Da-Amakiri Tubo and Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom, has called on members of the Kalabari diaspora to reconnect with their roots by returning home and investing in their community.

In a heartfelt appeal, the monarch emphasized the importance of prioritizing local development and urged Kalabari people living outside the region to consider building homes and establishing businesses in their ancestral land rather than channeling resources into other areas.

“Our people need to come back home to build houses here instead of buying land in other communities,” he stated, underscoring the need for a collective effort to enhance the Kalabari Kingdom’s growth and prosperity.

Dokubo-Asari highlighted the immense opportunities available within the Kalabari region, pointing to its rich resources and strategic potential in sectors such as oil and gas, marine transportation, agriculture, and tourism.

He called on his people to seize these opportunities by creating businesses that could drive economic growth and generate employment for the community. By investing in their homeland, he argued, the Kalabari diaspora could contribute to the long-term development and sustainability of the region.

The monarch directed a passionate message to the youth, urging them to distance themselves from cultism and acts of violence. He encouraged young people to focus on constructive and peaceful ways of contributing to the progress of their community.

Dokubo-Asari also reaffirmed his commitment to championing the causes of resource control and environmental conservation in the Niger Delta, emphasizing the importance of protecting the region’s natural wealth for future generations.

He also shared his journey of relocating to Obuama in 2017 from Port Harcourt, a decision rooted in his desire to contribute directly to the development of his homeland. He revealed that he sold his properties in Port Harcourt to reinvest in the Kalabari region, channeling his resources into Obuama.
