Reality Star Mercy Eke Laments Loss of N100 Million Following Heritage Bank’s Licence Revocation

In the wake of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) revoking Heritage Bank’s operating licence, reality star Mercy Eke has publicly expressed her distress over her substantial funds trapped in the bank.

Eke, who won the fourth edition of the Big Brother Naija reality show, revealed that she has over N100 million deposited with Heritage Bank.

Eke explained that her association with the bank began when it sponsored her season of Big Brother Naija. She also accused her account manager of persuading her to place her money in a fixed deposit account, despite being aware of the bank’s underlying issues.

The reality star took to the X app to share her plight, stating: “I really don’t know how to react to this… I have been hoping for the best, thinking there’s a way out,” adding the hashtag #HeritageBank.

Addressing why she chose to open an account with Heritage Bank, Eke stated it was a requirement for contestants during her season of BBNaija, as their prize money was to be disbursed through that bank. She now regrets having funded the account significantly.

Hoping for some relief, Eke shared a CBN circular, which stated that only five million Naira would be immediately available to those with larger balances, with the remainder being paid out as the bank’s assets are liquidated.

When asked about her account manager’s role, Eke reiterated that the manager had encouraged her to place her money in a fixed deposit, fully aware of the bank’s troubles. This revelation has only compounded her regret and frustration over the situation.

Eke’s grief in the situation, highlights the broader implications of the CBN’s decision for Heritage Bank’s customers, many of whom now face uncertainty over their funds.

As the situation unfolds, affected individuals are left hoping for a resolution that solves their financial losses.
