Group knocks defected lawmakers, accuses Wike of causing crisis

By Brave Dickson

A group under the aegis of the Defence for Human Rights and Democracy has expressed its disappointment in the 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly who just defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group, through its Chairman, Clifford Solomon told our correspondent that the political crisis in the state is condemnable while accusing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike of causing the crisis in the state.

He said: “It is unfortunate that every now and then, Rivers State has always been a state of political turmoil which was why the state was once christened; ‘a Rivers of blood’.

“This is the type of political crisis that does orchestrate violence in any given state. So, it is worrisome to every right-thinking citizen who is not involved in the crisis.

“Rivers State is enveloped in political crisis every year and it is mainly because the political actors are not putting the interest of Nigerians in perspective.

“We therefore condemn this act of godfatherism that is playing out and we are not in support of anyone that is fronting this crisis.

“I think the political godfathers in the state do not want Governor Siminalayi Fubara to succeed in his tenure and they are doing everything possible to frustrate him.

“We urge the inspector general of police to compel the current commissioner of police in the state to be neutral and desist from taking sides.

“We also call on Rivers people to put the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike in check and stop him from creating unnecessary crisis and to let him know that Rivers State is not his personal property.

“We want an egalitarian society where the dividends of democracy will be the utmost priority of government at this point in time in the state.”
