Police arraign OSPAC commander for murder

By Florence Uwaeme

The Rivers Police Command has arraigned the Commander of Onelga Security Peace and Advisory Committee, Rundele community, Emohua Local Government Area Nyeche Ajuru, before a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt for alleged unlawful possession of firearms, arson and murder.

When the court mentioned the case, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Amadi Nna, stopped the accused from taking his plea.

The Chief Magistrate, citing a section of the state’s Firearm Act and Criminal Cod, said the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the case.

He ordered the case file to be transmitted to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice, or the accused person should seek bail at the State High Court.

However, he ordered that the accused person be remanded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.

Ajuru was paraded at the command headquarters following his arrest for possessing an AK47 rifle and charms.

However, he said he took possession of the gun after disarming a cultist.
