Protest rock some part of Port Harcourt City local government area, as hoodlums take over streets of Mile 3 Diobu axis of Ikwerre road and Lagos bus stop to dislodged passersby their valuables.

Our correspondent gathered that in the early hours of Friday, some hoodlums barricaded the Ikokwu junction Mile 2 Diobu, burning tyres as a protest as a result of naira scarcity, while using the opportunity to rob passersby of their phones and money.

Commander Diobu Vigilante, Prince Amatari Bipeledei, in an interview with our correspondent, disclosed the protest was carried out by some miscreants that wanted to destroy the security architecture of the area and use the opportunity to perpetrate crime.

He explained that they were able to dislodge the miscreant in achieving their aims, noting that normalcy has returned to the area.

“Some hooligans said they were protesting about the naira policy, but their protest was purely a contradiction because most of them protesting do not have a bank account, neither do they have money or corporate presence.

“They wanted to use it to perpetrate all kinds of crime, but we were able to dislodge them. We are still monitoring them though normalcy has come back.

“Ordinarily, if they were protesting genuinely without ulterior motives, it would have been better because the naira swap policy does not favour anybody.

“Everyone is affected. Their protest was to destroy the security network and use it to burn down people’s houses or business places to loot their valuables”.
