The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it convicted 14 drug offenders in Rivers State and seized 25.426kg of hard drugs during the month of November 2022.

The NDLEA spokesman in the state, DCN Emmanuel Ogbumgbada made this known via a voice note sent to our correspondent on Friday.

The command said, “in the month of November 2022, NDLEA Rivers State Command secured the conviction of 14 drug offenders at the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, and they are serving various jail terms at the Correctional Service Centre, Port Harcourt.

“Meanwhile, the Command had arrested 28 suspects comprising 21 males and seven females, including a pregnant woman, kate Ibinabo, 39-year-old who was arrested with 34.3kg of Cannabis Sativa at Okrika LGA.

“Total drug seizure during the month of November is 25.426kg comprising cocaine, heroin, Cannabis Sativa, methamphetamine (aka Mkpurunmiri), tramadol, Diazepam, Rohypnol, and Exol-5.

“The Command also conducted an anti-drug abuse campaign to various schools, communities, NGOs, religious groups, and corporate organisations in the state.

“The state NDLEA boss, Commander Ahmed Mamuda, while commending the people of the state for cooperating with the Command in terms of information sharing, advised Rivers people to be vigilant as we approach the yuletide season.

“He also assured the public that the agency will increase her offensive action against illicit drug dealers so as to make the season peaceful for everybody living in the state.”
