Outcome of Senate investigation will determine our next action – PENGANSAN

Tina Amanda

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGANSAN, says the report of the Senate committee setup to investigate crude oil theft will determine the its action plan as regards the proposed strike.

The Union had threatened to embark on strike starting from October 2nd, 2022, due to increase in oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

Chairman PENGANSAN Port Harcourt Zone, Comrade Onita, who stated this in an interview with our Correspondent, said the report from the fact-finding senate committee will be reviewed by PENGANSAN national body ahead of its planned strike action.

He, however, said it will be more appropriate if the committee does not end its report on just fact-finding and investigation, but come up with workable suggestions.

“Some stakeholders in the industry have formed a committee through the Senate. The Senate committee is already investigating and going round the states and inspecting the facilities of various companies. We believe the Senate will be able to give a feedback on how far they have gone.

“At the end of this investigation and fact-finding by the committee, the national body of PENGANSAN through its President will review the of the report, whether the report is favourable or not and based on that review, action plan would be worked out”.

He further said that the masses are already suffering much as a result of the oil theft and it needs to be addressed once for all.

“Nigerians are already suffering based on what is happening, they are feeling the pain, what we are doing is to make sure we come out of these wounds incurred from the industry. The ecological life is affected, farmers can no longer use the lands for farming, all these are already happening.

“What we are doing will strengthen other stakeholders in the industry in the interest of us all, the sector is in a coma position, that is where Oil theft have taken the industry to.

“Let’s believe the report of the Senate would be able to proffer suggestions and we hope government will not stop on finding but will have the willpower to match words with action”.
