Rivers PDP refuses to give Assembly aspirants forms despite payments

Some aspirants for house of assembly positions in Rivers State have protested the refusal of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to issue them forms despite making payments.

The aspirants stormed the secretariat of the party at Aba Road, demanding explanations from the party.

Uche Nwauju, one of the aspirants told newsmen that house of assembly aspirants were at the secretariat to obtain their nomination form for the 2023 general election but the party is trying to deny them nomination forms that they have already legitimately paid for.

He said “We should be allowed to contest and test our popularities through party primaries as those practicing democracy”

But the party denied the allegations that it refused to give forms to aspirants who paid for them.

The party in a a statement by Joy Oyaghiri-Fagbemi said “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State has been drawn to a protest lodged against the party by some persons claiming to be members of the party. They are alleging that they paid for forms for the State Assembly and were not issued the forms.

“Let it be known that people that paid for various forms, are meant to AND did collect their forms at the venue/channel where they paid for the forms.
Those that were issued forms in Port Harcourt are those that paid for their forms in Port Harcourt and some persons that purchased forms elsewhere, were issued forms in the places of purchase.

“We want to believe that there is a misunderstanding in their complaint and hope this release will address such misunderstanding.

“Let it be known that the PDP Rivers State is united in its desire to retain power in the state come 2023 and therefore, will not be distracted”.
