The Nigerian Correctional Service, Rivers State Command has confirmed that some inmates sustained gunshot wounds in an attempt to escape custody, as a result of the pandemonium that broke out in Port Harcourt prison yard.

In an interview with our correspondent, the Public Relation Officer of the Command, ASP Juliet Ofoni, who confirmed the incident said some inmates had wanted to take the advantage of a fight that broke out between two inmates to escape the prison but were resisted by security personnel.

She explained that no life was lost in the process, noting that the inmates who sustained bullet injuries have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

ASP Ofoni, however, assured that the situation has been put under control, as there is no more cause for alarm.
