Obaseki sends Anti-open grazing bill to Edo Assembly

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has forwarded the bill prohibiting open grazing of cattle and other livestock to the State House of Assembly.

The 24 copies bill was sent to the house on Tuesday, for approval.

The governor, had in October assured that a draft copy of the proposed Edo Anti-Grazing Bill would be sent to the state House of Assembly for legislative consideration before the end of October 2021.

However, during the plenary on the bill, the Speaker of the house, Marcus Onobun noted that the bill had been receiving inputs from members and different stakeholders.

Onobun also added that the bill had been slated for consideration on a later date to allow more consultation and recommendations by members.

The law which has since been passed in some southern states of the country bans the indiscrimante movement of cattle and other livestock in public places.
