Uniuyo Professor arraigned for electoral fraud

INEC

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday arraigned a lecturer at the University of Uyo at Akwa Ibom State High Court over electoral fraud.

INEC reportedly engaged the defendant, Professor Ignatius Uduk as a Collation/Returning Officer for the Essien Udim State Constituency on March 9, 2019, governorship and house of assembly elections.

He faces a three-count charge bordering on publishing and announcing false electoral results.

At the resumed sitting on Thursday, the three charges were read to the defendant, who pleaded not guilty to all.

A staff of INEC, called in by the prosecuting counsel, served as a first witness and was also cross-examined by the defense counsel.

However, the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, adjourned the case to January 25 for the continuation of cross-examination.
