Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN Rivers State, has refuted the claims making round that Marketers are hoarding premium motor spirit (PMS) popularly known as fuel.

State IPMAN Chairman, Dr Joseph Obele, who refuted the claims in an interview with our correspondent, explained that presently there is a supply gap, as importers are unable to meet up the product demand by marketers.

He maintained that out of nineteen Depots in the state, only two Depot is currently servicing marketers, noting that they are on top of the issue to ensure PPMC hasten importation to avert any form of scarcity and hardship that may be experienced by consumers during the festive period.

“The talks making round that we marketers are hoarding fuel is not really true, we are experiencing a nationwide supply gap, there is no sufficient supply at the moment.

“We have engaged and advised the management of PPMC to do rapid importation, of which they have assured us that there would be sufficient supply this period.”

Dr Obele, further advised the public against patronizing the black market in the purchase of fuel as it is unsafe, just as he assured the people not to panic buy in fear of fuel scarcity.

“We are advising the public not to embark on panic buy as a result of the supply gap as mentioned, we are also encouraging the public not buy fuel from black market because there is no assurance of the quality of the product being purchased.”
