Man apprehended while trying to sell daughters in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a 40-year-old man while allegedly negotiating the sale of his two daughters.

It was learnt that the suspect, identified as Elisha Effiong, was arrested while negotiating to sell his daughters for seven hundred thousand naira (700,000).

A statement by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) spokesperson in the state, Ukeme Umana, said Effiong was arrested after being tipped off by a private guard at Full Care Hospital on Ekpanya Street, Uyo, the state capital.

“The private security guard notified the NSCDC and immediately the State Commandant, Abidemi Majekodunmi, detailed personnel of the anti-human trafficking unit of the corps to swing into action.

“The suspect was apprehended on November 15 with his two daughters,” Umana said in the statement.
