Buhari launches Nigeria’s e-Naira

President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled Nigeria’s digital currency, e-Naira.

Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria had postponed the unveiling of the e-Naira as one of the key activities lined up for the country’s 61st independence anniversary.

The launch, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, had the Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele; Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; among others in attendance.

According to the CBN, the e-Naira is a culmination of several years of research work in advancing the boundaries of the payments system.

It noted that the rollout of the new digital currency is to make financial transactions easier while resolving to ensure accessibility of the e-Naira by everyone.

Meanwhile, the unveiled digital currency has two applications, the eNaira speed wallet and eNaira merchant wallet.

In a statement on the e-Naira website, the CBN wrote out procedures to sign up on the e-Naira speed wallet.

It noted that interested individuals can sign-up by inserting their details, including First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, State of Origin, and Email as captured during BVN enrollment.

According to the statement, “Your Banks are waiting to assist you in validating and updating your BVN details to ensure seamless enrolment to the eNaira Platform,

“Remember Your BVN details is YOUR Personal Information, Do not disclose to Anyone.”
