Bayelsa Airport to resume full commercial operations in two weeks – Diri

The Bayelsa state government has revealed that commercial flight operations will resume fully at its International Airport after it received the first commercial flight on Wednesday.

An aircraft of the United Nigeria Airline (UNA), which took off from the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 in Lagos state, landed at the Bayelsa International Airport on Wednesday afternoon amidst jubiiations.

The state governor, Senator Douye Diri, who was aboard the aircraft on arrival disclosed that full commercial flight operations will commence in two weeks based on the bookings made.

Diri noted that the commencement of commercial flight signalled the economic development of the state which would announce Bayelsa and the world closer to themselves.

He further noted that the significant event is the culmination of the aspirations birthed by the former governor of the state, late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and built by his predecessor, Senator Seriake Dickson.

The governor expressed that the project is a demonstration of teamwork, as it was “crystallised” by his administration.

While expressing joy over the event, Diri thanked his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, whom he said worked tirelessly with his team to see to the realization of the project.

“I am happy to report to you that the pilot of the United Nigeria Airline said our runway is one of the best in Nigeria. It is our determination to make Bayelsa truly the Glory of All Lands and we are making Bayelsa a construction site.” He added

In a congratulatory message to the governor, the representative of Central Senatorial District at the national assembly, Senator Moses Cleopas, lauded the government and Bayelsans for achieving the feat.

The speaker of the House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere and chairman of the state Traditional Rulers Council, the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Diete-Spiff in their statements expressed that the airport would open doors of economic opportunities and also place the state on the map while urging Bayelsans, to empower themselves with the opportunities that the facility would bring.

Meanwhile, aboard the aircraft with the governor were the Chairman of the Airline, Chief Obiora Okonkwo; Tokyo Olympics Silver medallist, Blessing Oborududu; King Alfred Diete-Spiff; Ambassador Boladei Igali, members of the Bayelsa State National and State Assemblies among other personalities.
