Police petitioned as lawmaker brutalizes in-law in Rivers

Mrs Love Nwanyanwu, a mother of six has petitioned the Rivers State Police Command over attempted murder by her brother-in-law, who is the leader of Etche Legislative Assembly, Blackson Nwanyanwu.

In her petition at the Human Rights Desk of the State Police Command, Mrs Nwanyanwu said the lawmaker and three others attempted to kill her on Sunday at her home in Omualu, Etche Local Government Area.

Mrs. Nwanyanwu had alleged in a video that the lawmaker, who is a brother to her husband, teamed up with the husband’s siblings and family to accuse her of witchcraft and other crimes in the family.

Mrs Nwanyanwu who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday called on the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the councillor representing ward twelve in the Etche Legislative Assembly does not go unpunished.

Also, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called on the Rivers State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged physical assault on Mrs Love Nwanyanwu by Blackson Nwanyanwu.

According to Mrs Nwanyanwu, “I overheard my husband brother who is a councillor in Etche telling his family that I am a witch and more. They all descended on me, he hit me with a chair and they beat me up.

“I call on people to help me fight for Justice as I am seeking for justice. They left me heavily injured.”

Meanwhile, the lawmaker has denied assaulting the woman and has issued a statement threatening a lawsuit against her.

The centre however in a statement said only a thorough investigation would unravel the truth and anybody found culpable should be made to face the law.

It added that no citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is above the law.
