Court orders Kalu’s release from prison

The Federal High Court in Lagos State has ordered the release of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from prison.

Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court in Lagos during a trial on Tuesday ordered that Kalu be released from Correctional Centre, TVC reports.

Recall that the Supreme Court week’s ago nullified Kalu’s conviction.

Kalu was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment over N7.16 billion fraud, on December 5.

But the Supreme Court had upturned the judgment in its ruling led by Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Amina Augie. The ruling held that the trial Justice, Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without jurisdiction.”

However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC condemned the judgment of the Supreme Court, describing it as a technical ambush against the trial of the former governor.

The agency had declared preparedness for a fresh and immediate retrial.
