Wike vs Caverton: No state has right to deny citizens right of passage – Shehu Sani

A former senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has kicked against governors denying Nigerian citizens rights of passage to their states.

The Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike arrested two pilots working for Caverton Helicopters for flying five oil workers into Port Harcourt after the state enacted the quarantine law to restrict movements in order to curtail the spread of coronavirus.

Sani, on his Twitter page, said no state had the right to deny any Nigerian access despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

He said denying Nigerian citizens access to or through a state shows symptoms of ‘secession’.

“No state has the right to deny Nigerian citizens from other states the right of passage to or through. Doing so is symptomatic of secessionist tendencies.

“This is what groups accused of plotting or planning secession were told sometimes ago.”
