You were voted to do what I couldn’t, stop complaining – Fayose tells Fayemi

Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, has urged his successor, Kayode Fayemi, to do what he could not do for the workers in the state civil service by paying them their arrears of unpaid salaries and emoluments.

Fayose stated this following a statement by Fayemi to labour leaders that workers in the state’s civil service were owed over N57billion as arrears of unpaid salaries and other emoluments.

Fayemi claimed that the trend was caused by Fayose as his government embarked on irregular payments of salaries and pensions.

According to Fayemi, “It is very sad to call out out such a huge figure as it can cause panic for you and me.

”However, let me state that we cannot pay everything at once but the 2019 promotional arrears would be given immediate attention while others will be defrayed by instalment.

”It is difficult paying once because Ekiti gets a little above N5 Million monthly, with the state getting like N3 billion, while the local governments receive little above N2 billion monthly,“ he said.

Fayose, reacting over the comment by Fayemi in a tweet on his official handle said: “I read without surprise & as usual Fayemi usual brandishing of figures owed Ekiti workers & retirees by my administration.

“Without joining issues with him, rather than public service announcement, I enjoin him to pay the workers. Moreso he was “voted” to do what I couldn’t do.”
